Trip in Detail:
We started from Hyderabad and took a train to Bangalore (You can also drive down, but we chose to go by train and then a bus from Bangalore to Madikeri). We reached Bangalore in the morning, and the bus was at 9am from the Mysore Road Bus Stand in Bangalore. From there it was around 250kms. It took us 6hrs and with the lunch break etc factored in, we reached Madikeri at around 4pm.
We opted for home stay instead of a resort and had pre-booked our stay here. Coorg has around close to 800 home-stay options is what we learnt after going there! We checked into the home, freshened up and started venturing out in the town. Our first pit stop was food! We didn't have a great lunch and were famished. I had read about Coorg pork being very famous! We looked up the best places to have Pork on Tripadvisor and ended up at Taste of Coorg restaurant.

We tried one of the Pork combos with Neer Dosa, followed by an amazing ice-cream ! It's a small place run by a lady and her son, but the sophistication the lady had is worth mentioning! After satisfying our gastronomic needs, we headed for the first destination of the trip - Madikeri Fort. It was already 6 pm by the time we reached there and it was supposed to be closed, but we could go in and walk around and get pictures clicked without any crowd and hassles! This is a very serene and quiet place and great to have an evening walk!

By the time we finished our Madikeri Fort visit it was around 7pm. We walked till the central square where the bus stand is, grabbed some quick dinner and rushed back to our room.
We started the next day,with a visit to Omkareshwar Temple, which was right next to our home-stay.

Post the temple, we had planned a visit to Nalaknad Palace and Tadiandamole Peak Trek. We took the bus from Madikeri to Kakkabe which is the base camp for Tadiandamole Trek. Its a 7km trek, and the starting point is the Nalaknad Palace. From there, its a relatively easy walk in the first and second phase. The 3rd phase is the arduous phase where it is extremely steep and the walkway is pretty uncomfortable. But nevertheless, like all treks, the view from the top and the serenity justifies all the pains! Its totally worth trekking and I would suggest it for anyone who would want a little adventure and some nature-soaking pleasure!

The next day was the most happening day for us. It was an eventful and action packed day! We first started with the Abbey falls. It was 7kms away from our home-stay. We started at around 6am and reached the falls at 6.30am. I would recommend anyone who visits this place, to visit in the morning. It is the most serene place in Coorg and the morning made it just splendid. We were the first ones to go to the falls and there were no other tourists around! We clicked some great pictures and returned back to our hotel for breakfast.

Post Abbey falls, we started Dubare Elephant Camp. It is around 40kms from Madikeri. We rode down till the camp. This was a splendid experience again, where instead of taking a ferry ride across the lake, we crossed it by foot! There were many fellow tourists who were crossing on foot! It was a unique experience where we had to come up with different strategies and change course to avoid the water from coming up high till our knees!

After you cross the river, you have the option of Elephant ride, Elephant bathing and feeding the elephant. The elephant safari was stopped temporarily. So we did the Elephant bathing and Elephant feeding! It was good to take a walk around the elephant reserve and see elephants taking a stroll!

Next destination was Namdroling Monastery. It was around 8kms from Dubare Elephant camp. On the way we came across Nisargadhama which we planned to cover on our way back. Namdroling was a splendid place and the Sanctum Sanctorum was very royal indeed! I will let the pictures do the talking!

From here we headed to Nisargadhama. It is a small adventure park with eateries and shopping stalls lined up in the entrance. There is an entry to the park and inside there are boating, elephant riding and some adventure games for kids. Decent place to visit once.

Next we headed back to Madikeri and had lunch in Udupi restaurant again. Now we had to head back to Hyderabad the next day and hence wanted to cover Thalacauvery and Bhagamandalam too. These 2 spots are 40kms away from Madikeri, but in the opposite direction of Dubare, Namdroling and Nisargadhama! We started at around 2.30pm post lunch and reached Thalacauvery at around 4.30pm. This is the starting point of the river Cauvery and is a very holy place. It was very foggy by the time we reached there and it just started drizzling. The drizzle added to the beauty of this place. Mist and fog all around! Bhagamandalam comes on the way to Thalacauvery. It has a beautiful temple and a river facing at this spot.

That was all about our 3 day sojourn to Madikeri! Came back with many misty memories! The Tadiandamole trek remains unforgettable till date!! Hope to travel soon to newer destinations! One lifetime is just not enough to unravel our beautiful Mother Earth!!
