A Weekend Trip to Kausani, Uttarakhand in $75!

In this post, I will talk about my 2 day trip to Kausani, a small hamlet-hill-station in the Garhwali range of Uttarakhand. Kausani is around 420 kms away from Delhi. It is also called the Switzerland of India.

We followed the Itinerary below:

Fri: Start from Delhi by Road. Buses start from Anand Vihar ISBT. One can take this trip on Car as well (Roads are good for a long drive!)

Sat: Reach Kausani, and early check-in into hotel. Explore Anasakti Ashram, Sumitranandan Gallery, Kausani Tea Estate, Baijnath Temple, and have bonfire night.

Sun: Checkout from Hotel and trek to Rudradhari Waterfalls. Wrap up by afternoon and start for Delhi.

Places to Visit in and around Kausani:

 1. Anasakti Ashram: This is a museum dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhiji stayed in this museum for around 2 weeks, when he was writing a book. Photography is not allowed inside the main building.

 2. Sumitranandan Art Gallery: Sumitra Nandan Pant is a Hindi Poet, born in Kausani, and this place is the house he was born in. The place exhibits his famous works and his life.

3. Kausani Tea Estate: From SumitraNandan, we next headed to the Kausani Tea Estate. These are lush green gardens with tea trees lined up along the small hillocks. The tea-picking ladies were all over, picking the harvest!

4. Baijnath Temple: Next on the list was this ancient temple of Lord Shiva, which is believed to be the wedding venue of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi. The temple was not crowded, and one can peacefully sit on one of the benches and enjoy the serene weather.

5. Rudradhari Temple & Waterfalls: We headed to this place the next day morning after having breakfast and after checking out from the hotel. The base camp is around 5kms from the city center. From there, the waterfalls and the temple is around a 1 hour leisurely trek/hike. It is not steep anywhere in the whole hike. There is a small changing room/Wash room near the temple for tourists to get refreshed. I will let the pictures do the talking of the fun this place was.

After the trek, it was pack-up time for us. We quickly grabbed lunch, and started on our bus-trip back to Delhi. That was about this short sojourn to Kausani, nestled in hills of Uttarakhand.

2 Day Trip to Kandy & Nuwara Eliya - Sri Lanka

Kandy is a major town located in central Sri Lanka. It is famous for the Tooth Relic Temple and Perendeniya Botanical Garden. We arrived in Kandy from Dambulla by a bus. We reached at around 12 noon. We checked into a hotel booked on the spot through booking.com We freshened up and went to the Tooth Temple on road. It was a 10 minutes walk from the hotel. The Tooth Temple is a very sacred temple for Buddhists, which is believed to house an ancient tooth relic of Lord Buddha. This is housed inside the royal palace and the lake complex. There is an entry ticket for foreign tourists. The Royal Palace and temple complex On the Temple grounds! We did not visit Perendeniya Botanical Garden, since it was in the outskirts, and we strolled around the central railway station area. There were lot of food joints and bakeries in Kandy!
